Hi everyone this weeks  theme is hardcore drills …then prepping for winter grading ..there is a lot of wisdom on the mat dont be afraid to ask a senior for help …thats how we all got here …regards Sifu

Great week of training everyone thank you …pushing the classes out to 90 mins makes a world of difference…tuesdays are hotting up had an intense night lots of combos and a huge effort by eveyone ..the long term plan is taking shape i want you to think of this class as a competition prep class…as every grading is as intense as any comp and you literally have to fight for your belts so try not to miss it ..lunchtime today will be the equal of tuesday night and tomorrow the weeks wrap up… see you on  the mat …regards Sifu

Hi everyone im back to full roster from today…so hope to see you on the mat tonight ..most of you are aware the meeting with the surgeon wasnt so great but im over that and preparing for the task ahead …all i can do is be as fit as possible to minimse recovery time and get back to full strength as quickly as possible ..ive thrown myelf at this at 100% for nearly 50 years so there are no real surprises …thank you for your support… means the world to me .. onwards and upwards …this week we are taking the old school training to a new level ..ive gone through my old training diaries and have some challenging next level drills for skills …i love the old ways …dont get me wrong  modern technology is awsome and sports science allows us to understand whats actually going on at a deeper level..but it is rooted in the old ways.. it came from the old ways ..im sure the monks didnt discuss fast twitch fibres versus slow twitch fibres …they new from hundreds of years of experimentation what works …so see you on the mat .. kuen yao summ faat …Sifu

Until Sifu has recieved treatment for his injuries Tuesday 7pm BJJ Foundations is BJJ Open Mat – meaning come in to roll or drill, but it’s not a structured class.

Have a fantastic few days off!!

See you all soon.

Hi guys,

Firstly congratulations to all that graded on Saturday it was a very high standard, I’m very proud of your efforts. We’ll post some photos and video on Facebook shortly.

Thank you for everyone who came yesterday to the Alexandria Sunday Funday, it was a great day we’ll be getting involved in more like them so we will need a demo team!

This week we’ll be prepping for the Wooden Dummy seminar this Sunday that I’m very excited about. It will be an intense day so make sure you bring your A game. It starts at 11am, and will run for at least 4 hours. (Cost is $199).

This week’s theme is all about speed and explosiveness. Tomorrow night’s boxing theme is setups and feints and a revision on the punch count.

So see you on the mat tonight!

Regards,

Sifu

Hi guys!

Just confirming with you all that the grading will be taking place tomorrow from 9:30am. The conditioning class is still on but will be a quick 30min heart starter. The kids class is also still on at the usual time of 11am, so no changes there.

See you all at 9:30am tomorrow!!

Thanks for a great class last night guys, very old school. I learnt the punch count when i was a young gym rat back in the early 70’s. It’s the gold standard of the sweet science. We’ll review it again next week plus setups and fakes.

Tonight is knife hand, palm strikes and hammer fist 2.0. So don’t miss it!

See you there.

Also, we need volunteers for the demo team for Sunday, just as much time as you can spare. Demo practice is tonight at 7pm.

See you on the mat,

Sifu

Hi guys,

This week’s format will be exploring Wing Chun’s other strikes – side palm strike, vertical palm strike, hammer fist and the deadly knife hand – targeting soft tissue and nerve plexus’ as well as the required conditioning such as iron palm etc.

Looking forward to seeing you on the mat.

Regards,

Sifu

Reminder to everyone that’s done a weapons workshop with us before, Sifu is putting on a free weapons revision workshop tomorrow from 10:30am, just after BJJ. That’s nunchaku, butterfly sword, dragon pole, dragon staff, sticks, knife and baton. See you on the mat!

Wing Chun Tradition and modern Mixed Martial Arts

Tonight will be another trip down memory lane …hard core drills and old world skills, don’t miss it…

See you on the mat.

What is Red Boat Kung Fu?

Red Boat Kung Fu, headed by Sifu Rick Spain, has been operating in Sydney since 1986. At that time Sifu Rick Spain was still operating under the auspices of Grandmaster William Cheung who was a life-long friend of the late Bruce Lee and live-in disciple of late Grandmaster Ip Man.

Growing up on the mat with this deep rooted connection to Wing Chun history and tradition, Red Boat Kung Fu not only has the resources and developments you would expect in a modern MMA school, but also a wealth of tradition and “old school” practices that takes you back to what you imagine it would have been like to train in the Shaolin Temple hundreds of years ago.

Where Wing Chun Tradition and modern Mixed Martial Arts collide is where you will find Rick Spain’s Red Boat Kung Fu.
