Hi guys!

This Wednesday new restrictions are being lifted allowing adult contact sports to recommence, which means our training will start to feel a lot like old times!

Get in tonight too. Sifu has a big kung fu night planned for tonight, a whole new bunch of drills for skills planned plus, Mayur’s 7:15pm class!

Don’t miss it!

See you on the mat.

Woohoo!

Well we’ve been back for 2 weeks now and the vibe is getting stronger everyday. Yesterday was a hoot, I had a very action packed agenda but we spent a large portion of the class having a crack. I think everyone finally felt “we’re back”.

My mission this Winter is to get everyone in top shape for Spring and Summer, so not only will we be doing some challenging high intensity training, I will alwso be sending out a video every second day on diet and nutrition advice (including meal ideas) plus layers of the Winning Mind.

I’m super excited about the schools birthday on the 2nd of August. Lets start taking names for the grading and the party.

See you on the mat!

Welcome home everyone!

We kicked off Saturday with Frances’ 9am conditioning class, Sifu’s 10am Wing Chun and Damien’s 11am kids kung fu. Sunday was an awesome BJJ session with Andrew and Monday smashed with Zac at 12.15, Sifu at 6pm and Mayur at 7pm.

Today is 730am live stream with Sifu plus 6pm True Boxing again, with Sifu.

If you aren’t aware, approved class numbers have increased to 20 PLUS instructors and assistant instructors. So, while we’d still like you to pre-book via the mindbody app, there’s plenty of room for everyone. I’m hoping to update the number limitations on mindbody today.

Live streaming has been reduced to 7am Tuesdays and Thursdays, then 10am Saturdays and kids live streaming will continue only until the end of the term on Mondays and Wednesdays, the start time is moving back to 415pm as of this Wednesday to again allow for travel times after school.

Lastly as of July 1st adult contact sports are allowed! So let the fight begin!!!

See you on the mat.

PS. Email to follow in next few days in relation to updates in policies so please keep an eye out. In relation to COVID proceedures, please ensure you temp check at arrival, sign in and sign out on the register in addition to checking in on mindbody. As for training, X marks the spot, no intentional touching, limited sharing of equipment is allowed, please use your 16s or bag gloves when on the heavy bags or pillars and wash and sanitise your hands regularly!

PPS. Grading and gathering looking to go ahead late July! So start training asap!

Our annual memorial service for Jonathan Church is this Friday. This year marks 24 years since his passing. He was Sifu’s 6th student and Sifu considered him to be like a brother/son and was one of Sifu’s first Gold Belts. Every year on 12th June we honour his memory. Our Student of the Year Awards have been given in his name every year since his passing.

Jonathan Church was one of 18 killed in a training disaster in Townsville 1996. In 2015 a new annual tradition was initiated called “The Jonathan Church Ethical Soldier Award and will be made to nine soldiers each year, three of whom will be also named as ambassadors. The award is named in honour of Tpr Jonathan Church, an SASR paramedic who helped save children whose parents were massacred in Rwanda in 1995.”

For those who cannot make it into the city, we will be observing one minute’s silence before the 7:30am morning live stream class. For those who can make it in, we are meeting at the Martin Place cenotaph between 11 and 11:30am. Afterwards we will go to the Cauliflower Hotel in Waterloo to commemorate. Jonny’s training buddies will be there as always.

We hope to see you on Friday online or in person.

By now everyone would have heard the good news that we are allowed to re-open the Kwoon as of this Saturday 13th June! As you can imagine we are super excited like you! There are changes that we need to adhere to for the time being. Most of these will be outlined below, it’s all pretty straight forward and what you would expect given the current state of things.

It’s ideal that you read and understand the rules and procedures now so that we can focus on doing what we enjoy the most when we re-open so please take a moment to read this message in it’s entirety.

While the Government has not provided specifics on everything, it is the Australian Institute of Sport who are the primary influencers in setting the framework for how the fitness industry will function, so that is what we are basing our plans on at this stage.

The rules are that classes are limited to 10 participants (including the coach) and up to 100 in the facility as long as social distancing requirements can be maintained, that we know. Due to the size of our facility, technically we are allowed up to 60 people inside (if we count the entire floor space it’s actually 90). This does not translate practically however. We can easily accommodate 10 per class with social distancing requirements, but we can only have up to 6 of you doing your own training – split between training in the gym or on the heavy bags/in the heavy bag area. What it does mean though is that people can watch the class as long as social distancing is maintained. This is especially important for parents who like to watch their children train.

We have a touchless thermometer to be used on entry. If you have a high temp (over 37.5) we cannot allow you to train. If you’re feeling unwell please stay home.

Cleaning products are available for use after use of equipment and hand sanitiser will be available at the entry/exit area and outside the bathrooms.

Please pre-book for classes to reserve your spot and please be mindful of others and cancel your booking in good time if you can no-longer attend that class. We have set the pre-booking limit to 9 with a wait-list of 5.

In addition to checking in on Mindbody, there will also be an attendee register to fill out and sign.

It’s recommended that you come ready to train and shower at home where possible and socialising is meant to be kept to a minimum. This is to minimise unnecessary contact in change rooms, bathrooms and communal areas.

In relation to Kung Fu: Shadow boxing is allowed. Non-contact technical work with coach, including using bag, speedball, pads, paddles, shields is allowed. No contact or sparring.

In relation to BJJ: Non-contact skills training. Resistance training in gym, solo mat-based drills (e.g. weighted bags) are allowed.

In general: Activity that can be conducted by a solo athlete or by pairs where at least 1.5m can always be maintained between participants. No contact between athletes and/or other personnel. Indoor/outdoor activity that can be conducted in small groups (not more than 10 athletes and/or other personnel in total) and with adequate spacing (1 person per 4m2). Some sharing of sporting equipment permitted such as kicking a football, hitting a tennis ball, use of a skipping rope, weights, mats. Non-contact skills training. Accidental contact may occur but no deliberate body contact drills. No wrestling, holding, tackling or binding.

Thank you for taking the time to read this, see you all on Saturday!

So far 10am Wing Chun with Sifu and 11am Kids with Damien is confirmed.

Watch this space for more updates.

Wing Chun Kung Fu in Sydney

Happy Monday Everyone!

So, things are starting to wake back up. We’ve had a few of you enquire about when we may physically re-open, the short answer is we actually don’t know. We know as much as is available to you in the media and until recently the NSW government has refused to give a timeline as to when gyms and the likes can open their doors again in our state. Just this morning however, our Premier has stated that she will provide us with a timeline this week. This we are looking forward to hear.

We assume it will be the end of this month, though really do not know. Thank you all for your support and patience, we will keep live streaming schedule as it is with the exception of this Saturday’s 10am which will be pre-recorded, as we are having a couple of nights away up the coast to see family.

Kids classes have been so much fun. They will continue. The timetable will be reduced back to two days a week – Monday and Wednesday at 4pm. Now that school is back it’s time to ease back a little on the Kung Fu so they have time and energy to balance their activities.

What has been apparent is the importance of separating the age groups. So while both classes are open to all ages:

Mondays are targeted toward the over 8’s and Wednesday are targeted toward the under 8’s.

What this means in practice is that:

On Mondays the younger kids will focus and follow on as best they can, they may not understand everything but as long as they do their best, that’s the main thing.

On Wednesdays the older kids will need to practice patience and self discipline – when I’m chatting to the younger kids do some more repetitions of the technique or punching/blocking/footwork combo.

This timetable is starting this week, so tonight’s kids class is directed at the over 8’s and this Wednesday is for the under 8’s.

See you tonight for either Kid’s Kung Fu at 4 or Martial Xfit at 5:15pm!

Cheers,

Amy

Hi all!

This afternoons kids and adults classes are pushed back to start at 430 for the over 8’s and 530 for the adults.

See you then!
