Classes are on as per usual in the evening.

I am placing the order for Hoodies (zip and no zip), Hooded Vests, Gonzoil BJJ Tees and Red Boat Tees first thing Thursday morning. So if you want to a) guarantee that your size will be available in b) your preferred colour combination then you need to pre-order and pay by Wednesday evening.

WE WILL ONLY be ordering one, maybe 2 shirt and hoodie colours with RED ONLY PRINT for Red Boat stock, and OLIVE ONLY PRINT for Gonzoil BJJ stock. If we were to anticipate all potential colour combos AND ensure there was enough available in everyone’s size, then our merchandise order would be upwards of 1,000’s of shirts and hoodies.

So if you have a preference for colour and print then you MUST pre-order. In pre-ordering your print options are Red, Black or White, and your shirt options are ENDLESS. You could get long-sleeve shirt in purple with white print, superman blue jumper with red print… WHATEVER YOU LIKE. Visit https://www.ascolour.com.au/ for inspiration.

Please get your orders in by the end of the 7pm class on Wednesday.

You can email me if you won’t be in until after then.

Some combos we experimented with 3 years ago:

Hi parents!

Firstly, the kid’s class is back on at the normal time of 11am this Saturday. Thank you for being flexible at adult grading times.

Last Friday we received notification that we have been approved as an Active Kids provider. The Active Kids program is a NSW Government incentive to get more kids into sport by providing one voucher per child, between the ages of 4.5 – 18 yrs, up to $100 per year, for the next 4 years.

You do need to apply for each voucher for each child, but I understand it’s fairly straight forward and you can follow this link to do so: https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/apply-active-kids-voucher

So, unless you’re fully aware of the program and have already used your voucher, next term’s fees can be on the Government 🙂 In seriousness though, we are very happy to be involved.

Thank you, see you all Saturday!

Amy

QUICK REMINDER: THIS SATURDAY, ADULT WING CHUN GRADING – KIDS CLASS ON EARLY AT 9AM.

Need some seniors for the grading as we have a level 6 grading solo and will require some sparring partners. If your not grading or sparring, come down and show your support anyway!! Lunch afterwards at the Cauliflower Hotel.

Now……

WING CHUN IN WINTER!

Yes, the colder months are now upon us, it can be so easy to just hibernate through it, but winter is the best time to train!!

(and we’re not exactly known for taking the easy path here are we…?)

  1. Cold burns fat quicker. Your body’s self-regulation of heat means that when it’s cold your body has to work harder to maintain a healthy core temperature. So, getting out of bed or up from behind the heater to get in to train can increase your metabolic rate up to 10% – and that’s before you’ve even started your workout.
  2. By being exposed to various ambient temperatures, your body learns to get warmer faster.
  3. Studies have linked increased exercise to better moods – as I’m sure we’re all well aware – but this is most definitely important in the colder, darker months when people can experience varying effects of what’s been referred to as SAD (seasonal affective disorder). The rush of endorphins can be proof enough for most of us that training is good for us during this colder time.
  4. Training itself makes you warm!! Raising your body temperature during a workout has a soothing calming effect on your body like a hot bath or lying in front of a heater.
  5. Regular exercise has been shown to increase your immune system. This boost only lasts for a few hours so exercise needs to be regular for long term effects.
  6. AVOID WINTER GAIN! Keep your winter weight in check so you don’t have to scramble in spring to look good for the beach. The average person puts on 4kg during winter. Now, I know we’re not your average people, but it is ever so tempting to reach for the comfort food on a particularly freezing day. Exercise can help keep those desires at bay by keeping you warmer, keeping you focused on your goals, on track and burning those extra calories if you do happen to cave in to a quick pleasure food fix.

So, if you’re hibernating STOP NOW!! and get your ass on the mat!!

If you’re going to be smart about it, plan well:

  • Get in early to warm up before class.
  • Bring something warm to wear after class – hoodie, beanie, scarf, gloves – and PUT THEM ON!! Even if you still feel warm from training.
  • If you really feel the cold, wear compression gear and/or a rashie under your gi, it can really help.
  • Correct nutrition – you’re burning more calories in the cold, so if you have a fair distance to travel, take a healthy snack for your trip home.

See you on the mat!!

It’s that time of the year again, we’re taking orders for Hoodies and Vests…why not get some tees while we’re at it. We’re looking at some cool colour combos too! Prices are: Hoodies $79; Vests $75; Red Boat Tees $29; and Gonzoil BJJ Tees $29. Discounts apply for: 2 items 10% off; 3 items 15% off; 4+ items 20% off.

Winter is already upon us, so get your order in asap!

Please order and pay at the same time, we will get them in sooner that way.

Order sheet is at reception.

BLUEPRINT OF WING CHUN

Hi guys,

Just a quick message to remind you to not miss tomorrow’s class. We’re going to be doing a profile on Wing Chun. All blocks, strikes, footwork, techniques, attacks etc. We will be pressed to fit it all in, but the motivation behind it is so you can quantify the system so you know exactly the volume of skills you need to master to become one.

It’s a must.

See you there,
Sifu

Parents,

Quick confirmation that the Kid’s 11am Saturday class will resume on Saturday 5th May.

We hope you all have had a lovely holiday!

See you in a week!

As written above:

URBAN SURVIVAL WORKSHOP

24-26 Botany Road Redfern (opposite Waterloo IGA)

This is a must for all of us. After 40 years teaching urban combat skills it is more relevant today than it’s ever been. Blunt force trauma and knife attacks are the 2 main causes of death in the urban environment. In many cases they are avoidable. The skills you will learn are situation awareness (never be a soft target again), reading body language, the 7 stage attack ritual and counter measures, how to defend and apply chokes, understand and apply escape and evasion tactics, weapons disarms and much more.
